Before I had Lucas, I visited a children’s daycare center close to our home just in case the babysitter (recommended by a friend) doesn’t work out.    The facility took in 8 infants at a time and there were 3 assigned caregivers to take care of the babies.  That’s why pre-registration was important to secure a spot with the center. As I was given a free tour of the facility, I was teary-eyed when I was shown the designated infant room.  There was a caregiver on a rocker feeding a baby, a baby crawling on the carpet where everyone was just casually stepping on with their dirty shoes (I was surprised the caregivers weren’t using any shoe covers), and a little asian baby being spoonfed babyfood.  I guess the asian baby did it to me.  I just imagined my little child being fed by a complete stranger and not having the full attention he deserved.  Today (5/1/06), I went to 2 other daycare centers and 2 montessories.  The montessories only took in children from age 2.  The 2 daycare centers were worst than the first one I visited.  One daycare center had no windows so the whole place stunk like soaked up diapers and the kids running around were so filthy looking (geez, it was just 9 am in the morning). Anyway, I’m just disappointed with what I’ve seen today.  Hopefully, I’ll find a place where I feel Lucas will be safe and be well taken care of while I’m at work.
